Going Portable

The main reason I bought my EEE PC is its portability. I can slide it into a handbag, travel on the MRT, and arrive safely at the LAC office with no one being the wiser as to my precious cargo. Ü I can also now bring it with me on my travels — I had it during my most recent trip to Boracay and was able to blog from the island using free WiFi networks.

That’s actually my favorite part about having my EEE: being able to use WiFi. Everyone knows I’m a big fan of Robinsons Malls because they offer free WiFi in certain areas within the malls. It’s not really enough to go crazy with downloads, but if you just want to check Facebook while sipping your Ice Blended drink at the Coffee Bean, it’s great!

EEE!
Then last month our home desktop crashed, leaving us with nowhere to turn but our laptops (and sub-notebooks). We eventually got tired of having to share one single LAN cable, so yesterday my dad bought a wireless router and I set up a network here at home.

Now my sister and I can be online at the same time, and in our own rooms, or in the living room, or upstairs in the attic (which is where I’m writing this right now). It’s really convenient. All we have to worry about is getting so addicted that our mom has to message us over YM: “Dinner’s ready. Can you come down to the dining room now?”

The VAIO TX series is about as tiny too … and it comes in various amazing colors! I have an HP right now with a 15″ screen – great to watch DVDs on, but a pain to carry around because it’s so heavy.Sorry … 8 years out of UP and I’m still a geek ๐Ÿ™‚

Dh is wanting to get me an EEE and I can’t wait! Also, I’ll have to go shopping for a new bag to carry it. :-)The laptop I use is his Work from Home one which has a 17″ screen, so it’s really heavy and I don’t take it anywhere with me unless we are going on vacation. I’d much rather have something smaller to be able to take with me and I can use it to take notes with at church and other stuff.I want a pink one… since they don’t have purple yet. LoL BUT I’ll take whatever color… as long as I get one.

Ade, that’s scary.Hey Adel, I’m already a member of the EEEPh forums, and I used the advice from there to pimp my EEE (Advanced Desktop, etc…). Thanks for the link to your site! I love the articles.Rei, nothing wrong with geeking out every once in a while. The VAIO is a dream, yeah! That is, if I wanted all that computing power for graphics manipulation, etc. Right now I have an HP Presario to do all the heavy lifting, but it stays in the house because it’s so heavy to lift. I feel your pain.Your DH is so sweet, Julie Pixiemom! But if he’s planning to get you one of the colored EEE PC’s, be forewarned they only come in 4GB versions. Get a big-capacity thumb drive for all your file storage needs.Pau, the Xandros OS is nice and lightweight on my system resources, and it’s got all I need so I haven’t even seriously considered changing my OS to XP.

I set up one of the first wi-fi home networks in Kabul before and we used to huddle together with our laptops ๐Ÿ™‚ Someone also had that great idea in one of the coffee shops there called Chaila and we ended up there more often than not because of the free wi-fi! I used to smile at the fact that we had wi-fi networks in coffee shops earlier in Kabul than in Manila hahaha
